About QTWAV
Forming in 2021, Queer and Trans Workers Against Violence are a collective of LGBTIQA+ professionals spanning domestic and family violence, sexual violence, and LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy organisations in South-East Queensland, working to address DFSV, gendered violence and inequality for LGBTIQASB+ communities. We value the many rich threads of professional expertise, practice wisdom and lived experiences underpinning LGBTIQASB+ community life and the work to end domestic, family and sexual violence that comprises our membership. Our collaborative practice aims to engage capacity building, stakeholder and community engagement, policy development and systemic advocacy to support and shape an emerging sector responding to our communities as a priority cohort disproportionately affected by gendered violence.
We consider the collaborative model of QTWAV to be a high standard exemplar of key principles within the Australian National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-2032:
-
Sexual, domestic and family violence services and programs led by LGBTIQA+ specialist services
-
Building the capacity of the broader service system to respond to the needs of LGBTIQA+ people
-
Collaboration and partnership between specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services and other services such as… LGBTIQA+ community organisations
Lesbian, Gay, Bi+, Trans, Gender Diverse, Nonbinary, Intersex, Queer, A-spec, Sistergirl and Brotherboy (LGBTIQASB+) people have existed and lived in all communities throughout history, however continue to face significant social, structural and systemic barriers on a number of health, wellbeing and social measures. These barriers often result in disproportionate experiences of gendered inequality and violence, particularly Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence.
Our Mission
That LGBTIQASB+, and particularly trans, gender diverse and non-binary communities in Queensland are able to live rich and fulfilling lives, free from violence in all forms but particularly domestic and family violence and sexual violence, and free from gendered inequality and discrimination.
We do this through capacity building for:
-
Domestic and Family Violence, Sexual Violence and Child Sexual Abuse sectors
-
Gendered Health and Equality Sectors
-
LGBTIQASB+ Organisations
-
LGBTIQASB+ Communities
-
LGBTIQASB+ workers and workforces
